Environment and Nature
Care for the environment and nature has been given utmost importance by the company as it always takes heed in whatever environmental concerns of the community.
One example is the Marcela Farms, Inc. (MFI) which, in response to the rising cost of energy and oil, invested in a wastewater treatment facility that better disposes pig manure and capture methane to generate electricity.
The MFI’s biogas plant is the first LANDBANK-financed project to be included in the Program of Activity for piggeries under the Methane Recovery from Waste Project registered with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
In other areas of concern for the environment, the company always responds to the rehabilitation plan of mine-out areas, as required by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). The company makes it sure that tree seedlings are planted on all abandoned quarry sites in the farms. With the rehabilitation, this will help transform the idle lands into a virtual man-made forest which could help man sustain a living, or even save lives in other capacities.
The company is also actively participating in the tree planting projects of the government, through the coordination of the Local Government Units (LGUs) and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). When it comes to involvement in the environmental protection, the company always lends a helping hand to whatever programs and projects initiated or implemented by the government.
